About New York Vacation Rentals

The state of New York is famous for its namesake city, but is actually home to a widely-varying environment. Our New York vacation rentals are great bases for a trip to see what the state is all about.

When Dutch settlers moved into the state in the early 17th century, the area now known as the state of New York was inhabited by the Algonquian, Lenape, and Iroquois tribes of Native Americans. The area was first claimed by the Dutch in 1609, but the British annexed it in 1664.

In New York City, Times Square is a must-see for any visitors. This is where the iconic “ball” is dropped on New Year’s Eve. Cultural events and venues also abound in the city such as the world-famous plays on Broadway, the huge variety of events at Madison Square Garden, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There are also plenty of places to eat ranging from street vendors to very high-class restaurants.

In sharp contrast to the cosmopolitan and bustling New York City, much of northern – or “upstate” - New York State is rural. It’s a great destination for fall color tours, nature trips, and other such vacations. This area is a great place for city-dwellers to get away from it all and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. The general culture also shifts to a much more relaxed state once away from the iconic city and its suburbs.
