An abundance of activities await you in the Honokowai region including land and sea adventures. Spend relaxing days at the beach, go snorkeling, stand up paddle boarding or parasailing, or enjoy a scenic hike or ziplining adventure. A world-class snorkeling spot is located about three miles offshore at Molokini Crater, and during the winter months these are some of the best waters in all of Hawaii for seeing humpback whales either from shore or on a whale watching tour. Fishing charters go after big game fish like swordfish and marlin.

Golfers have great options in this area including the Royal Kaanapali Golf Course with signature beachfront holes and views of the West Maui mountains. A nice day trip is a drive through the scenic Maui Upcountry region and on to the summit of Haleakala Volcano for stunning vistas and hikes through the native forest. After a day of fun pamper yourself with a luxurious spa treatment.

Nearby Beaches
Honokowai Beach Park offers some fun snorkeling with openings in the reef to explore and many fish to see as well as green sea turtles. Restrooms, showers, picnic facilities and a grass lawn make this an enjoyable place to spend the day. There's even a playground for the kids.
Head over the resort areas of Kaanapali Beach and Kapalua Beach to enjoy more pristine beaches and plenty of options for activities from snorkeling and scuba diving to boat tours and parasailing, or just relax and enjoy the beauty and crystal blue waters. Black Rock at Kaanapali is an exceptional snorkeling and scuba diving area. During the winter months this West Maui coastline is a great place to see humpback whales swimming by offshore, and you can get a closer look at these gentle giants on a whale watching tour.

Many more shops and an abundance of art galleries can be found farther south in Lahaina town. Take a drive up into Kona Coffee Country for some interesting shops in the small towns and some great fresh-roasted coffee beans straight from the farmers.

Getting Around
Renting a car is recommended when staying in a Honokowai condo giving you easy access to the area's immaculate beaches as well as the resort amenities of Kapalua and Kaanapali, exceptional shopping and dining in Lahaina town, and day trips to Haleakala Volcano and "Heavenly Hana." Maui's public bus system operates 7 days a week with service between communities in West, South and Central Maui including Haiku, Kula and the Maui Upcountry.

Weather and Ocean Conditions
Honokowai as well as the rest of Maui's western shore is known for its idyllic weather with plenty of sunshine, a very moderate amount of rain annually, and pleasant temperatures that are usually in the 70s and 80s. Trade winds provide a pleasant cooling effect. Temperatures drop about five to ten degrees at night. Expect cooler temperatures if you are visiting higher elevation areas like Haleakala National Park.

Ocean conditions are generally very calm though intermittent ocean swells can bring times of high surf and strong currents with some beaches more protected from the open sea than others. If you would like to participate in water sports it is best to visit lifeguarded beaches and ask water safety personnel about the safest areas for the activities you choose.
