About Keauhou Vacation Rentals

Our Keauhou vacation rentals offer the best of the Big Island's Kona Coast for a luxurious and memorable Hawaiian vacation. Exceptional beaches, championship golf courses and posh resorts are all complemented by this region's ideal weather and scenic views.

Things To Do
Golfers can challenge their skills at the Kona Country Club Mountain Course. Notable holes on the course include Number 7 which is known as one of Hawaii's toughest par-4 holes, and Number 14 which features a flower-surrounded waterfall. Enjoy the cooler air and scenic views from the golf course and then finish up with a visit to the course restaurant. Drive south to Kealakekua Bay to snorkel, kayak, visit the Captain Cook Monument, and nearby is the sacred Hawaiian cultural site called Puuhonua O Honaunau. If you feel like enjoying a resort swimming pool then check out the multi-level pool at the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort which has the Big Island's longest water slide. Activities abound on the Kona Coast from sunset sails to snorkeling cruises and sport fishing, and humpback whale watching during the winter months.

Nearby Beaches
Kahaluu Beach Park is located on the north end of Keauhou providing a good snorkeling and swimming area due to the historic stone wall that provides protection from the open ocean. Head south to Kealakekua Bay for snorkeling and kayaking excursions that often encounter dolphins, with humpback whales often seen passing by offshore during the winter months. Drive north to the Kohala Coast to visit Samuel Spencer Beach Park which is nice for swimming due to the protection by an outside reef.

Restaurants
You will find some great places to eat at the Keauhou Shopping Center including excellent pizza and pasta at Bianelli's, top-quality sushi at Kenichi Pacific and tasty local-style food at L&L Hawaiian Barbecue. If you just want a snack then try Moo Bettah for ice cream, frozen yogurt or the local favorite shave ice. For fine dining try Sam Choy's at the Keauhou Shopping Center. There are lots of great dining choices on the Kona Coast from the resort areas to Kailua-Kona and the historic Kailua village. Rays on the Bay at the Sheraton Kona Resort is a great place to watch the sunset. This is also a nice place to see manta rays from a special viewing area near the restaurant. A "Manta Ray Talk" is given every evening just after sunset at the Keauhou Coffee Company. The Keauhou Farmers Market is held on Saturday mornings and is a great place find fresh produce, meet the farmers and hear live music.

Shopping
Keauhou Shopping Center offers boutique gift shops, art galleries jewelry stores and various other shops including a pharmacy as well as a multiplex movie theater. Drive north to historic Kailua village for an abundance of fun shopping and exploring in the seaside town. More interesting shops can be found in the various small towns of Kona Coffee Country, and also in Waimea and Hilo towns.

Getting Around
Renting a car is recommended when staying in Keauhou vacation rentals so you can explore nearby beaches and attractions along the Kona Coast as well as day trips to the Kohala Coast, Waimea, Hilo and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The island's bus service, called Hele On Bus, is free and stops at various points around the island including transportation between Kona and Hilo every day except Sunday.

Weather and Ocean Conditions
The town of Keauhou on the Big Island of Hawaii's Kona Coast is known for its sunny and dry weather compared to the eastern (windward) side which sees more rain. Average temperatures are around 74 degrees F. with winter lows sometimes dipping into the 60s and summer highs rising to the high 80s. Clouds often form over the mountains slopes in the afternoons with annual rainfall averaging about ten inches. Ocean conditions off the Kona coast are typically calm though conditions vary each day.
