Getting Around

Renting a car is recommended when staying in a Hawaii condo so you have easy access to local beaches and attractions as well as day trips around the island where you are staying. Oahu, Kauai, Maui and the Big Island also have public transit systems with bus service to most of the major towns.

Weather and Ocean Conditions

Hawaii weather ranges from about 70 to 85 degrees F. throughout the year with rain and wind conditions varying in the different areas of each island. In the Hawaiian Islands the balmy and moisture laden trade winds come from the northeast so the northern and eastern shores see more rain than the south and west shores, and create Hawaii's very green and lush landscapes. The winter months generally see more rain than the summer months though in Hawaii sunny days are the norm and rain showers are usually passing, revealing blue skies and rainbows! Temperatures can be considerably cooler at higher elevations like atop Haleakala and Mauna Kea volcanoes.

Hawaii's ocean conditions vary considerably through the seasons and also depend on which side of the island you are on. South shores are typically very calm though summer swells can bring high surf and strong currents. During the winter large swells often come from the north bringing big waves to northern shores. Some beaches are more protected than others from the open ocean and different beaches are suitable for different ocean activities. Visit lifeguarded beaches and talk to water safety personnel about the safest area for the water activities of your choice.
